Herston Carriage Shed Foundations
Avon Construction were awarded the contract for the construction of a new 150m long steel frame building to house the railway carriages at Herston Station for Swanage Railway.
The contract scope of works included the construction of 32no. reinforced concrete pad foundations, 200m of ducting for service provision and the construction of the 150m steel frame building with half height cladding.
The contract works were interrupted by Covid-19 and meant the project had to be split into two phases. The foundations construction and the steel frame installation. All foundations are now complete with the steel frame construction to be carried out at a later date.
The works took place under a controlled line possession in a safeguarded environment with all access for site plant and materials via the railway carriages provided free of charge from Swanage Railway.
