Marsh Mills Footbridge
Working as principal contractor, Avon Construction were employed by Sustrans to replace an old pedestrian footbridge with a new dual use pedestrian / cycle bridge as part of a wider project to enhance a cycle network in Plymouth.
The old bridge was dated and could only take single filed pedestrian traffic. Our works package included the approval in principal (AIP) submission and approvals, on-site demolition of the existing bridge, minor enhancements to the existing concrete abutments, installation of crash deck scaffolding and on-site fabrication of the new steel and timber bridge.
Access to the site was limited and prevented a single lift installation, therefore the bridge was delivered to site in component form and fabricated in-situ.
The new 3.5m wide bridge now accommodates both pedestrian and cycles making access around Plymouth easier.
