Bournemouth Aviary

Avon Construction were awarded the contract to replace the old Aviary in Bournemouth Gardens. The old aviary was demolished and disposed of off-site. The new aviary comprised of a galvanised domed steel flight cage, built on a circular reinforced concrete ring beam. This was clad with a steel roof, 50x50mm galvanised mesh on the outside, and 11.5x11.5mm stainless steel mesh on the inside. A night building was built inside the flight cage to provide internal shelter for the birds and an area for the volunteers to prep food for the birds.

In September 2022 the outside face of the internal layer of mesh was painted black in order to improve visibility into the flight cage.
