Lavant View
Avon Construction were awarded the contract for the deconstruction and replacement of an old bridge spanning the river Lavant with a new reinforced concrete bridge.
The old bridge was found to fail in regard to flood regulations which subsequently caused it to act as a dam and flood nearby ground during periods of high flow in the River Lavant. The new bridge is to provide access for a combine harvester to the fields behind the new housing estate.
The scope of works included construction of a two stage abutment, installation of pre-cast MY1 beams, reinforced concrete bridge deck and upstands, the co-ordination of crane lifts for temporary bridge structure and pre-cast installation, boundary railings and temporary scaffolding works when working over water.
The remaining works include the dressing and reinstatement of the embankment 3m either side of the bridge which cannot be completed at the current time due to river conditions.
