Toller Porcorum – Shared-use Bridlepath
Avon Construction have recently completed the construction of a 2km long shared use bridlepath linking the village of Toller Porcorum to Powerstock Common. Working for Dorset County Council the objective was to provide a safer public pedestrian access route as an alternative to the narrow country roads. The new path was built on the footprint of the pre-existing railway embankment. The typical construction detail of the new path consisted of a 150mm cobbled capping layer to allow for a free draining path, topped with a 100mm layer of type 1 mendip limestone and a subsequent dusting of 6mm mendip limestone. The path edges were lined with over 775m of stock fencing complete with field gates to demarcate boundary lines. Works were carried out during the winter of 2021 with a single return visit in the spring of 2022 to top the path.
