Town Gardens Footbridge
Avon Construction were awarded the project for the demolition and replacement of a derelict pedestrian footbridge within Swindon Town Gardens. The old steel and concrete footbridge which dated back to the Victorian times had exceeded its lifespan and was replaced with a new 15m span steel and timber footbridge in an attempt to re-generate the use of the park.
The scope of works included the demolition of the existing bridge structure, construction of brick clad reinforced concrete bridge abutments and central pier, installation of scaffold crash deck, installation of the new footbridge and construction of approach footpaths.
The project was successfully completed on time and to budget with minimal disruption to park access and users throughout.
